Fireworks July 3rd

With the City of Chicago nixing their Indepence Day fireworks this year, many readers have inquired about the Saddle & Cycle Club's show.  Thanks to our pals at the Uptown Update, it looks like the Saddle & Cycle Club (900 W Foster - behind the new Dominick's) show is on the evening of July 3rd, at dusk.  Members (and their guests) only are allowed in the club itself but you can still get a great view of the fireworks from any of the local parks, beaches or surrounding buildings.

'Independence'

The thought of the Common Folk of Chicago celebrating freedom by gathering outside the gates of a private club to get a glimpse of the Blue Bloods' fireworks is weird and a little sad to me, especially after all these years of such great public celebrations.

I guess this is where the years of corporate welfare and Machine payouts have led us. Maybe Daley and his friends will toss silver dollars to the crowd afterwards?

I love the S&C club's fireworks. I can see them from our back balcony--beats heading to the beach!

@Clarence, I guess that's one way of looking at it.

However, I'm with Claire. Ever since I discovered the S & C fireworks, I love them! We sit up in the park by Foster Beach along with all the other people of the neighborhood and enjoy the free show. It's like being in a small town within the city--no massive crowds to negotiate, and we just walk home. Easy and fun!
