CTA accelerates security camera installations

Cameras installed at the Berwyn stop last spring.
According to various news sources, the CTA is rapidly increasing the pace at which it is installing security cameras in and around train stations of the agency's eight rail lines in response to an uptick of crimes.  By the end of the year the number of cameras will be doubled to 3,000 up from around 1,500 existing cameras today.  However, the move does not increase the amount of cameras being added, the CTA is just moving quicker to do so.  The cameras were funded by grants from the US Department of Homeland Security.  Soon additional cameras will be added to the Argyle, Bryn Mawr, Granville and Jarvis stations on the Red Line.  In addition, additional officers called Wolfpack patrols, both uniformed and plain-clothes officers, will roam the transit system.

Yay! They haven't yet caught the thug that knocked down the senior and killed her after stealing a cell phone. Supposedly there were "cameras" there. Keep coughing up those tax dollars Chicago. Almost humorous at this point.
