A grand opening: Burke's Public House

If you're a frequent reader of the EdgeVille Buzz you may have noticed us post a few updates (like here, here, here, here, and here) about a much needed pub rumored to be coming to Edgewater Beach named Burke's Public House since 2008, when we first learned the space formerly occupied by the Writer's Lounge was re-zoned at 5401 N Broadway.

After over three years of waiting, yesterday afternoon Burke's subtly announced that it was open on their Facebook page and by the time we arrived in the evening the windows were open, the Cubs were playing (and shockingly winning) on the flat screens, beer was flowing and the place was bustling with patrons from the neighborhood along with family & friends of the owners and staff.  Brothers Brendan and Kevin greeted customers and thanked them for coming, and despite some expected hiccups, including a down computer system, Burke's was well worth the wait.  The food was great, the staff friendly and attentive, and the prices were right.  Hopefully you'll check out Burke's Public House for yourself very soon!

(we tried the Chipotle Chicken Wrap and the "Build Your Own" burger with bacon, bleu cheese and BBQ sauce)

I drove past there around 5:30 last night and saw the doors and windows open, but wasn't sure if it was "open" open. Good to know that it is indeed open! Good luck to them!

woohoo! my boyfriend and I have been dying to check out this spot ever since moving to the neighborhood. we are only a couple of blocks away, it is good to know there is an option in that area now. can't wait to stop by!

Does anyone know if they have a website apart from a facebook page? Any reports on the beerlist?

I went last night, and I have to say I was underwhelmed. To me, the decor, beer list, and food seem mediocre in every way. And the prices seemed fairly steep to me: $6 for a Blue Moon? $11 for a burger? Having a middle-of-the-road option is better than no option at all, though, so I'll probably visit occasionally...until Nookie's opens, that is (ha!).

Love this place - Had lunch his afternoon. Had the Turkey burger and the onion rings were fab. A little slow in getting our order but it was all great and the service was fantastic.

What's the purpose of having turkey burger with fried onion rings? Just curious.

Burgers, french fries and onion rings. Yay!

The fat on Hollywood Beach this afternoon was horrifying.

You could deep fry Purina dog chow and it would taste good.

But glad there's one less vacant building in Edgewater.
