Just to let everyone know -- Today walking down Ridge around 6 I was jumped by about 10 Senn HS kids who knocked me down and pummeled me pretty good. Cops said these guys have done this a bunch of times when they get out of school at 2-3 & 5-6. Last summer they cut someone in the face. I got pretty lucky.

This is second or third time I have heard someone associate that high school with crime.
What has Harry done about this? Get these people back to where they came from. I would vote for a retard before that crazy bird.

Last time I was on a Red Line train with after-school Senn folks, I thought by the time we got to Wilson the seats would all be unbolted from the floor. What lovely behavior from the neighborhood high school we're all so proud of. Not.
Unfortunately, this crime will be filed and forgotten unless Ronnie makes some waves. When I was mugged by five idiots on Elmdale, the police told me to be more careful next time. I put fliers out asking people if they saw anything and met with block clubs and CAPS meetings to get the news out. That helped get attention to the problem, though it fell short of giving notice to the fools that their actions were going to have some repurcussions.
I'd love it for a group of us to stand at the spot Ronnie was mugged and hand out fliers to everyone that passes by describing the crime and asking witnesses to call 311 with any information-- or report it to Senn. That kind of action will get back to the idiots quickly and they will walk the streets of Edgewater looking over their shoulders. Without it, it was just another day in the hood.
sign me up! i will pass them out. i am actually supposed to be a mentor to a student at that high school. I thought the principal was supposed to be very involved, but of course she can't follow students home. I have the coache's email address that is leading the mentoring program if you want to send him emails outlining the crime and students!
Glad you're ok and all, but...would you care to give us a description of the attackers? Even a general one? How can we be "on the lookout" for someone if we have no idea what the people we're supposed to be on the lookout for look like???

I live on Ridge, and see them nearly every day causing trouble on their walk to the train. There are about 10-15 of them in a group. They harass people, thow things at cars, and unfortunately do what has happened to Ronnie. Calling the cops does nothing to stop them. The cops know who these kids are and do thing to stop it.
Sit in front of the old firehouse on Ridge between 5 and 6. You'll see them. You'll witness them day after day causing trouble. Try calling the cops; nothing will happen. And it is down right scary being approached by them. Trust me, I know from experience.
When will CPD, school administrators and the alderman do something to stop this? It is only a matter of time until something more serious happens, like an innocent bystander getting pushed into oncoming traffic? The blood of these victims is on the hands of the CPD, school adminstrators, these students parents and our alderman due to their lack of efforts to stop crime like this.
What brings them to Ridge at this time? Senn gets out at 3. Is there an after school program or an athletic program which they are a part of? If we can narrow this down, we can get closer to them.

They looked like high school students apparently. So be on the lookout for any high school students.
I've seen some of these kids by the firehouse. My friends and I were driving one evening, making a right on to Ridge. There were about 15 of the morons blocking the street, carrying on and hitting passing cars, etc. Really....what trash bags. Their parents must be quite proud.
Something like this needs to be stopped. If they (punk kids from senn) get away with actions like this they will start feeling like they can do anything and the violence will escalate.
Sounds like a police unit needs to be put on this and haul whoever needs to be hauled in.

You got it right on the head. The cops even told me they know who these kids are and said they are always in a group of 10-15 mostly African American kids.

I was right east of Ardmore and Victoria when I was mugged. Several young men out of a large group of young students attacked me from be...hind unexpectedly. After knocking me to the ground three of the men proceeded to punch me in the face and the head while ripping my bag off of me.
Since I was attacked from behind and beat relentlessly I wasn't able to get a good look at their faces. All I could see was that they were young and African American. And well, that's a pretty general description.
The crappy part was that a bunch of people witnessed it and just watched as I got beat for about a minute.
All of the kids took off running and I called 911 after Igot my bearings. I didn't get a good look at anyone's faces, and there was zero opportunity to defend myself. I was totally blindsighted. Just hope this doesn't happen to someone else.
What kind of person would just stand there and watch while someone is getting beat? Why not call 911 if you don't want to step in to help? I'm sure glad you are alright Ronnie:)
Does anyone know why the police just sit in their cars and read the paper? There is quite a "car" presence in the neighborhood but the kids just go around the corner from the parked car and do their thing....so frustrating. Saw a policeman parked in front of my house reading the paper after school one day while three guys got high in a doorway 1/2 block behind him!
