Police on the scene at Berwyn/Winthrop

This is the scene right now at Berwyn/Winthrop.  Winthrop is blocked off by another vehicle at Balmoral, and there are at least four vehicles in total.  One officer had a younger man (late 20's, either white or Hispanic apprehended in handcuffs in the alley along the Red Line.  Other officers have the building that houses the laundromat, Kitchen Sink and Steep Theater surrounded, as if they are waiting for another suspect to come out of the building somewhere.

UPDATE:  According to multiple sources, this was related to the shootings earlier on Ashland.  The suspects ditched their vehicle on Winthrop, then ran south toward Berwyn where at least one was apprehended.

Is this the same incident on Hollywood and Ashland or a different story?

I was just walking by as this happened, I'm not sure what the situation is but I saw the man in handcuffs and a lot of confused people (as well as the #92 stopped).

is it also the same people that were shooting by leland and ashland?

Why wasn't there any news coverage of any of this? Seems like a shootout between cars on ashland would warrant some mention.

The mainstream media very rarely reports ALL the crime that goes on because "Chicago is a world class city" and it's about the money that tourists bring in. If they actually knew just what goes on in ALL the neighborhoods, the money might stop flowing in. Who would want to come to this "world class city" IF they knew about the gang problems we have?

I understand not reporting all the crime (let's face it, that will fill the entire suntimes everyday), but, a rolling shootout that covered a large chunk of ashland winding up with two gunshot victims seems worthy of a quick blurb.

Jeremy, I agree with you but I think the only way we hear what's really going on is by listening to police scanners. According to one of my friends, it's mind numbing. The police in this city have their hands full trying to protect us and should be getting far more pay than they get. Having said that, you're right, there would be no other news except reporting on the crime. This SHOULD have got some air time.

They have reported on the news about crime in Edgewater often, don't forget the incident that ended on Devon, but they are probably sick of constantly reporting about this area now.
