Abandoned police station to house Griffin Theatre Company

The City of Chicago has agreed to sell the abandoned police station at Foster and Damen to Griffin Theatre for one dollar according to this article from WBEZ95.1. Griffin previously called Andersonville home before being priced out of the neighborhood and has since set up shop in Lakeview. The move back to the Bowmanville neighborhood of Edgewater will bring the total number of local theaters to five.

how awesome. I wish the city would set up an arts housing program. I'm sure there are plenty of other theaters and artists collectives that could benefit from this kind of subsidizing.

Glad to see they are doing something so productive with that space. Now if only the strip mall across the street could get revamped.

for one dollar when the city needs money....along with the police dept....I am sorry to say but this sucks......yes its nice who they gave it to.....but the city need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and that property is worth at least putting two more police patrols on the streets of Chicago.....:(

Who would they have sold the space to? I'm sure if the CPD could have found someone to buy the property from them for a nice profit, they would have.

At least by donating it to the Griffin (the $1 sell price is just a legal formality), they are supporting the arts and helping out other businesses in the area that will sell things to theatre-goers.
