Fire at Park Edgewater

A small fire broke out in a unit at the Park Edgewater building (6101 N Sheridan) about an hour ago according to a few followers on our Facebook page. The fire occured on the stove in the kitchen of unit 3H, and the resident was unable to contain it. Fortunately, the Chicago Fire Department and other emergency personnel arrived quickly before it spread to other untis and the fire was extinguised quickly and no one was injured. Smoke was reported throughout the building.

Very sorry to hear this and hope the resident is OK. Very glad to hear no one was injured and that the fire did not spread.

This is one of my favorite Edgewater condo buildings.

But it is stuffed with old gas stoves. People, please be careful around gas stoves, especially old ones. One flared up on me once and caught my sleeve on fire, but fortunately I was wearing fabric treated with a flame retardant. Other folks have not been so lucky.

Remember that more folks get injured in accidents at home than anywhere, and review your safety practices.

Brought out all the neighbors today, and everyone was mingling on this nice day,too bad it was for an unfortunate reason. You have to really be careful to monitor your stove especially if you are cooking, don't run off and watch tv or talk on the phone.

well, she was heating Paraffin wax, which is fairly flammable. it wasn't her first time, the fire was just a fluke, but hopefully it's lesson to heat paraffin in an electric warming device and not on an open flame.

I think we're all more concerned that the smoke alarms didn't go off.

Heating paraffin wax.
Hmmmm.
Nightmare tenant.
Was this person making candles or something?

Was probably heating it to wax her leg hair or something.

But candlemaking can be very hazardous, too, which is something I'm thinking about VERY carefully before I decide to engage in it.
