Pasticceria Natalina closing May 22nd

Italian pastry shop Pasticceria Natalina (5406 N Clark) is closing its doors for good May 22nd according to their website, much earlier than the September date we announced in December.  Not sure how much they will be missed if you remember the Chicago Tribune article and some of our reader's comments (Post:  Pastry with an attitude) about their experiences at the store (we personally have not experienced Pasticceria Natalina).  However if you are a fan, make sure to get your fix before they're gone for good!

Despite the bad press that they received, their departure is a true loss to the neighborhood. Art in food form gone.

Good riddance. Just because you're good at your "Craft" doesn't mean you know how to run a business, and customer service is part of running a business.

sorry to see it go.
unfortunately many establishments have gone out of business or just quit in Andersonville.
what is the chamber of commerce and alderpersons doing to attract interesting businesses? and i don't mean more chains such as pot belly, starbucks, and walgreens.

I could only hope at the moment to have my own cafe or restaurant, which is my dream.

I couldn't imagine treating my customers in such a way. I totally understand staying true to your craft and your own vision, but like michelle said, customer experience one of the most important things.

I loved that place! I'm sorry to see it go. I'm a little freaked out by how many stores are closing up here in the 'hood.

In Andersonville? There are quite a few that are relocating and opening up in Andersonville, including a new boutique, amongst other things.

At least at Bakers Square, there's a thing called "consistency" (oh, and this thing called price tags on the items or the menu).

You've got abundant foreclosures, vacant storefronts, apartments & condos in diversityville. A great concept but "art" and attitude just ain't flyin' in this economy. Banks just aren't floatin' extended small business loans based on heresay anymore. Just because people thought the hubby was a dream ain't granting any additional credit from the bank either. It's a new day. Hope and Change.

And, although truthful, referring to your small strip of happiness as "the 'hood" ain't helping the situation much either.

I can give you 3 residential addresses in Andersonville where there was no such thing as a neighbor in "hood".

I went there once before Easter, I was making notes what pastries they had so I could try to put together a good selection of desserts that I had been 'assigned' for a family dinner. The husband demanded I stop immediately, I thought they were joking, but then it got surreal. They told me that spies from other bakeries would come in and 'steal' their ideas and the next week a variation of what they were serving would be found somewhere else. I was flummoxed, and mortified, so I put my pen and pad away and left completely embarrassed. Only later did it occur to me that I could've just bought their pastries, if I were a spy, and then copied them. I have never been treated so rudely in a store in all my life. So as much as I hate to see another small shop close on Clark street, I have to say there was nothing they could sell that would make up for their ridiculous attitude. Look at me, I'm a Pastry Spy!!! Honestly, what the ?!?!?!?
