Edgewater Historical Society Fundrasier

We were honored to have been invited as guests to the Edgewater Historical Society's Spring fundraiser dinner hosted Wednesday evening at the lovely Adriatic Cafe restaurant (5553 N Clark). The event was well attended by EHS supporters and Adriatic Cafe served up a tasty buffet dinner. In addition, guests could participate in a silent auction which featured a plethora of interesting items such as neighborhood & history related books, gift certificates from local businesses and tickets to Cubs and Blackhawks games. Bob Remer, President of the EHS, recognized a few individuals who have had an impact on the EHS including the "volunteer of the year" Tom Murphy and attorneys from the lawfirm Seyfarth Shaw who provided legal services in the recent lawsuit against EHS that lasted over two years but was dropped last year. Guests also were challenged on their Edgewater history and Andersonville neighborhood knowledge in a competition at the end of the evening, but the rest of us were no match for three lovely ladies pictured below. All in all the event seemed to be a big success! We once again thank the EHS for allowing us to join the festivities and truely enjoyed meeting many of our neighbors and Edgewater Community Buzz followers.

What the Cappleman!

Why not? He has always been a very community minded person. Maybe he will take lessons from the Edgewater Historical Society and revive the Uptown Historical Society. When I lived in Uptown it was very active. Now it seems to have faded away.

My own opinion is that they spent too much time on the Uptown Theatre and not enough on the rest of the community. Uptown has some gorgeous buildings and an interesting history. It should be recorded.

Bobbytuba,
I agree with you about the buildings in Uptown, but the Uptown Theatre is not in his ward.. NOTHING has been done with it and THAT is a shame. Jam productions should be held to at least some minimum maintenance on that building or we will loose it altogether. It's like Jam productions are slum landlords.

I do think Cappleman will be good for Uptown and what's good for Uptown will be good for us;)

The demographics of Uptown are still at a level where rehabbing the Uptown Theatre is not worth the money, people just don't like coming to Uptown to spend their leisure dollars. Jam will continue to hold onto it doing nothing on the rehab front and wait to see if the new mayor/aldermen are serious about cleaning up this dumpy area. There has been a lot of hubris about turning this area around into a real music destination, we'll see if that happens.
