Former "Kitty Moon" building looking good

Before....

I took a ride up to Clark and Thome today, and the building on the northeast corner has been rehabbed very nicely. Kitty Moon bar used to occupy the first floor commercial space, which is currently for lease. The upper floors appear to have been revitalized as well, though it's not clear if they'll be residential units.

Let's hope there's some revitalization of that whole stretch as the economy improves (assuming it does!). It's still got a lot of bleakness, although not as bad as Devon between Broadway and Glenwood.

Glad there's something in the old Hollywood Video on Clark. AutoZone wasn't my personal first choice (Trader Joe's was), but something is better than nothing. Hope to see more new places, both chain and indie, soon. (What I like about having some chains is the standard of cleanliness and selection...indie places are sometimes lax, to say the least.)

OT (and definitely not intended as a response to Scott):

If anyone sees a Trader Joe's "scout" in the neighborhood, be sure to keep them away from my local Aldi in The Granville. (Aside: Yes, I'm aware that they're related in Germany.) One look at the customers in there will negate any positive demographic studies.

Helped you out Kevin/Jasper :)

I agree with that. I would kill for a trader joes in the neighborhood. I know aldi is good for some people, but I don't like having it in my building and having the customers trying to sneak into a private garage and littering all over the place. I think there are some chains that would do really well at "The Clarovista" and in Edgewater. Panera would be phenomenal in this neighborhood. JambaJuice, Qdoba or any chain like that. I would be for a bank of America as well. As long as someone was there to police the car situation.

Okay, what's up w/ the Trader Joe's fascination? Sorry to hijack, but what does Trader Joe's offer that can't be got at True Nature, New Leaf or even (gasp!) Dominick's and Devon Market (both of which do, yes for real, carry organic food and locally produced items)? Or Rogers Park Fruit Market? And if that's not enough, you can supplement w/ the farmer's markets, the CSA at True Nature or another organic delivery service like Irv and Shelley's Fresh Pick's. Look, I grew up near one of the first Trader Joe's. They're okay. But about the only thing they ever carried that I couldn't find elsewhere was $2 wine and scones that sucked. They were always too dry.

Trader Joe's? A lot of attractive products, all in one place. High standards of customer service, product stocking, reasonable pricing, convenient hours. As opposed to having to make many stops to all the other places mentioned, to find items out of stock or not carried, some old stock, higher prices, uneven or bad customer service (perhaps great service in some places but not all). Really low prices on a wide selection of wines carefully stocked and maintained as opposed to dusty bottles of wine at high prices kept in an overheated, unpleasant store (although sold by very nice people). That's part of what's up with the TJ's fascination. :) Would like to have one closer than a 40-60-minute commute.

Honestly, Clarovista itself should do something about their upkeep,we did a walk through in that condo several times and the hallways are very dirty and smell, seems no one cares to maintain that building.

Our floors are vacuumed and shampooed regularly. You must have walked through a renter floor. I assure you that the owner floors are not dirty. I can only vouch for a few of the floors, but I do know that they don't smell. Sometimes they smell like exotic foods, which is fine by me.
Trader joes only puts their stores in nice areas. The stores are usually frequented by a clientele that is much different than Aldi. I love their prices as well. I can get a cart full of healthy and delicious food for $50.
