Andersonville Mugger Who Told Police He Was Going To Rape His Victim Gets 3 Years In Prison

A man who attempted to rob a woman last October in Andersonville and told police at the station after he was apprehended “the b*tch is lucky you pigs came because I would’ve raped that little b*tch,” has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The incident happened on October 2, 2018 when 36-year-old Daniel Espejo stopped a woman around 10 p.m. on the 1400 block of W. Foster to ask her for the time. He then grabbed her purse and the woman fought back which led to a minute-long struggle.

A nearby witness came to the aid of the woman which gave her the opportunity to take refuge at a nearby business. Police were able to capture Espejo nearby soon after with the help of the victim’s description of the attacker.

Espejo, who police say is a Latin Kings street gang member, received a three-year sentence in connection to the crime with 215 days served. Judge William O’Brien accepted a plea deal with him and he is set for early release from prison on Feb. 28, 2020.
