Edgewater’s Zanzibar Cafe Set To Close, Will Reopen Under New Ownership

It has been over a decade since Zanzibar Cafe opened in Edgewater at 1036 W. Bryn Mawr. After serving the community for so many years, owner Ken Gasch will be selling the business.

Good news however for many loyal customers of the cafe. Gasch will be selling Zanzibar to a pair of its current cafe employees, Mahir Krijestorac and Haris Krijestorac. According to management, the duo will continue the business as usual but will most likely change the name.

“While we’re sad to see Zanzibar Cafe close and owner Ken move from our community, we are happy that he is selling the business to his employees who plan to continue to operate the location as a coffee shop and cafe,” it was written on the 48th Ward Community Facebook page.  “Thank you to Ken for your years of service to our community, and we wish you and your family the best.”

Zanzibar offers many cafe staples including Uncommon Ground Roasters Coffee and 22 flavors of ice cream. Over the years the business has grown to offer a full service menu. The last day under current ownership will be Memorial Day. The cafe will then close for 7-10 days during the transition.
