A man was left in critical condition after an apparent road rage incident resulted in gunshots and a car crash in Edgewater.

The situation unfolded on October 17 around 10:51 p.m. after the 38-year-old victim was engaged in a dispute with someone in another vehicle while heading North on Lake Shore Drive. When the cars reached the 1000 block of W. Hollywood, an individual in the suspect’s car began to fire shots at the other.

The shooting resulted in the victim crashing his car. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Five shell casing where also found in the vicinity.

The man was brought to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

Area surveillance cameras were able to capture some of the incident. Authorities say the gunman’s vehicle was a silver or gray Dodge Charger that has a black stripe down the middle and an orange stripe in the center.
