Vehicle DUI Sting To Take Place Friday Night In Edgewater

alert_duiThe Chicago Police will be conducting a DUI saturation patrol this weekend to monitor drunk drivers and other vehicular offenses.

The sting which will take place throughout the 20th district includes all of the Edgewater area. The monitoring will begin at 7 p.m. Friday night and continue through 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to a press release put out by the police department, “The purpose of this program is to saturate a pre-designated area with roving police officers that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving. Patrols also place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations. Police vehicles equipped for speed detection are deployed to apprehend speeding violators.”

A Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit may also be on scene to test those that may be drunk while driving.  The BAT allows officers to expedite the process of charging a person with Driving under the Influence (DUI) prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding. It also allowsfor Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) to be issued at the site of the DUI Saturation Patrol.

A similar sting in the 25th district on February 17-18 produced 42 unsafe vehicle violations, 14 insurance violations, 15 driver’s license violations, 7 safety belt violations and 36 other traffic violations. That operation also leaded to one arrest and 5 towed vehicles.
