Four New Businesses Take Flight In Edgewater

Though the number of businesses that have closed during the pandemic is tragic, several new businesses in Edgewater and Andersonville are setting the stage for the area’s future economic recovery.

After reporting on several new businesses in Andersonville such as Ándele at 5232 N Clark, Parson’s Chicken & Fish at 5721 N Clark, and Rattleback Records new expansion into 5407 N. Clark, recently four diverse storefronts have emerged in Edgewater. From Thai and smoothies to fitness and antiques, these businesses join the neighborhood ranks as life slowly revives in the community.

A new LGBTQ-owned retail store will feature a wide range of vintage goodies. Andy’s Art, Antiques, & Oddities has opened at 1253 W. Devon. Store owner and Edgewater resident Andrew A. Johnston decided to abandon the corporate grind and follow his entrepreneurial spirit.

According to Johnston, you will be able to find an assortment of interesting and unique objects, art and furnishings for the home that invoke a mood or feeling of happiness, comfort or curiosity. He will also be on hand for consultation to help find the shopping-challenged all the perfect pieces.

A fresh concept restaurant has opened in the former Summer Noodles & Rice space at 1123 W. Granville. Similan Thai & Sushi prepares exactly what its name suggests by offering the flavors of both Thailand and Japan.

Open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Sunday they open at Noon), the restaurant menu offers moderately priced fare. It has been a great start for the business as online reviews have been very positive

The Studio at the Center for Women’s Fitness, located at 6054 N. Broadway in Edgewater, focuses on women’s health. They also provide fitness plans catering to a variety of female-specific issues including pelvic floor dysfunction, diastasis recti, osteoporosis and breast cancer recovery.

Based on the teachings of the Studio’s founder Carolyne Anthony, the classes offer a unique approach geared towards female clients. With both private and group options, the sessions utilize the mat with props, Fuse Ladders, and the Bodhi Suspension System.

Serving up healthy, delicious smoothies, energy refreshers, protein infused coffee and tasty snacks, The Pack Nutrition at 6206 N. Broadway (the old Velox Coffee spot) is open for business. The Pack promises to supply tasty goodies for maximum energy.

With enticing options like their frosted animal cookie shake and homemade peppermint Oreos, You can still satisfy that sweet tooth while watching the calories. Conveniently situated a half block from the Granville red line station, pick it up on your way to work.
