As the holidays quickly approach we see our neighborhood being transformed into a warm, inviting atmosphere with brilliant white lights and festive green garland. Walking down both Bryn Mawr and Clark streets residents may gaze into the beautifully decorated store front windows and partake in any number of wonderful neighborhood restaurants.

With the holidays often comes tradition. Be it a glass of hot Glogg from Simon’s Tavern or a festive treat from the Swedish Bakery, we all have our special ways to celebrate the holiday season. Given our neighborhood’s strong cultural background we are privileged to have many traditional festivals and events providing great local fare.

This weekend neighborhood-goers will have the chance to participate the traditional St. Luca Festival of Lights which takes place Saturday, December 13 starting at the Swedish American Museum around 4:45 p.m. Children and adults alike are welcome to join the traditional Swedish procession down Clark street with a celebration at the Swedish American Museum to follow. This is a great opportunity to learn the heritage of the Andersonville neighborhood and perhaps create a new tradition of your very own!

Are you looking for a great way to find a special gift for that special someone and support local business? Look no further than Late-er Night in Andersonville. Shoppers will have the opportunity to support our great local businesses for an additional four hours from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19. Great food, events, performances and of course shopping awaits you in this festive neighborhood tradition.

We would love to hear from you as to what your favorite neighborhood traditions or memories may be. Please submit your post below or visit our Facebook page and comment on the “Neighborhood Traditions” post.
