Shop Edgewater Whole Foods Today, 5% Of Proceeds Go To Swift School

WholeFoodsIn the spirit of giving back to the neighborhood, Whole Foods has found its own special way of supporting the residents they serve. On special Community Giving Days, the retail grocery store chain’s Edgewater location will donate 5% of its proceeds to select local non-profit businesses who ‘have limited budgets and big hearts.’

Today (January 24), when you shop Whole Foods Edgewater, that money will be donated to Swift Elementary School at 5900 N. Winthrop. Swift is a Level 1+ Fine and Performing Arts Magnet School with an extremely diverse population. According to a statement put out by the 48th Ward Office, the funds will allow the school to buy necessary supplies and help support its spring musical production.

“While school budgets shrink, 48th Ward schools like Swift continue to thrive,” said Alderman Harry Osterman. “I appreciate the opportunities our community anchors like Whole Foods Market provide for neighbors to give back to our local schools. Every little bit helps.”

Organizations eligible for the Community Giving Day usually have operating budgets between $500,000 to $1 million per year and need to have a substantial membership and the ability to communicate their message effectively.

According to Whole Foods, “The giving program supports organizations that address community issues, such as: hunger relief, environmental concerns, organic and sustainable agriculture, animal rights and welfare and social services.” They continue, “Our focus is to support innovative groups that strive to make the world a better place. To us, a better place is one where the environment is preserved and replenished, communities are strong, health is a priority, organic farming is cherished, and where all living beings are respected.”
