New Edgewater Dog Park To Open This Summer

It's A Dog's Life In ChicagoMany area pet owners were dismayed when their beloved Foster Ave. dog park was overtaken by rising Lake Michigan water levels. Now, thanks to the 48th Ward office, they have announced the creation of a new Edgewater dog park.

The 48th Ward pilot dog park will be located on the northeast side of Lake Shore Drive at Bryn Mawr, near the lakefront trail. It is expected to open this summer.

The Alderman’s office also put out a request to find volunteers to assist with maintenance and governance of the park. They will also be forming a park advisory council to help run it.

Community members have been asking for a dog park in the 48th Ward for years,” said Alderman Harry Osterman in a statement put out today. “I am looking forward to a successful, community-driven project.”

A community meeting is scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. at the Broadway Armory (5917 N. Broadway) for neighbors who are interested in learning more and getting involved in making the dog park a success.
