Shake Shack Chain Teams Up With Edgewater’s Care For Real On Winter Clothing Drive

With most in Edgewater very aware of all the amazing things Care For Real does for the community, their efforts have also caught the attention of the national burger chain Shake Shack. The two have teamed up with hopes in making this year’s winter clothing drive the best ever.

Care For Real has announced that all six Chicago area Shake Shacks will be holding a special winter clothing drive February 25 – March 11, 2019, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Everyone who donates clothing at a Shake Shack will receive  a free ShackBurger! All winter clothing is accepted including hats, gloves and warm socks. But what is needed mostly are coats, especially sizes XL, XXL, XXXL.

According to Care for Real Executive Director Lyle Allen, Shack Shack has been looking for ways to give back as they expand into the Chicagoland market. So as they researched local non profits, Care for Real was selected as a community partner and beneficiary of a Warm Clothing Drive.

“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to partner up with Shake Shack,” Said Allen. “Chicago has been experiencing a long, brutally cold winter and warm clothing, especially coats, are in high demand.”

For 47 years now, Care For Real has been serving the Edgewater community and their operation has grown significantly as they currently distribute more than 25,000 articles of clothing and personal care items every month. They also offer free programs and services to Chicago’s vulnerable population including food distribution five times a week, a clothing shop, a pet pantry and an Employment Resource Center to help clients self stabilize and get back on their feet.

“The Shake Shack Warm Clothing Drive comes at an impactful time,” Allen added.  “I’m grateful for their support of our mission and dedication to extending our outreach throughout Chicago. We look forward to continuing to work with Shake Shack and assisting so many of our neighbors who find themselves in a time of need.”

Starting off as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in Manhattan to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation, Shake Shack quickly gained popularity and now has retail stores though out the nation.
