Several Reports Of Gunfire In Edgewater Since Sunday

Edgewater residents have flooded the police with phone calls and took to social media after several reports of gunfire have erupted in the community since Sunday.

Around 9 p.m. this past Sunday, June 9, shots were fired on the 6000 block of N. Kenmore. Witnesses said that between 5-10 shots were fired quickly. The front entrance to the apartment building at 6000 N. Kenmore was completely shot out, however no one was injured in the incident.

The second reports of gunfire came in a few hours later between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Monday, June 10. Those shots woke neighbors in the vicinity of Winthrop and Winona. There was no reports of injuries or property damage.

Later that evening around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, June 10, several males got into an argument on the crowded intersection of Hollywood and Sheridan. That incident got worse when one of the individuals pulled out a handgun and started firing several rounds. According to authorities, none of the men knew each other and it is considered an isolated incident. There were no reports of injuries. A 17-year-old boy has been charged with Monday evening’s shooting.

“I am working closely with the 20th and 24th Police District Commanders to directly address these issues,” said Alderman Harry Osterman in a statement. “The Chicago Police Department is investigating these incidents and reviewing video footage. There will be increased police presence in the impacted areas.”
