Papa Johns Hatchet Robber Caught After Wild North Side Crime Spree

AdamHothJust before 8pm last Thursday, Adam Hoth, 31, of the 11900 Block of N. Prospect Dr. in Gages Lake, pulled a hatchet out in a robbery at Papa John’s Pizza on Balmoral and Broadway. As employees fled out of the restaurant, he pounded the hatchet against the register to get it open with no success.  He then used the steel blade to pry open the drawer and proceeded to take all cash inside.

He tried to run out the front door, but it was barricaded by several people. Mr. Hoth then decided to make a bolt out the back door where police unfortunately just missed him. He escaped with $250, but not for long.

One day later he attempted to snatch a coach wristlet from an unidentified 29-year-old woman on the 5000 block of Broadway, boldly, just a few blocks south of the hatchet incident. He made his way South and for unknown reasons, back-handed a man around 2 p.m. on the 1200 block of Leland Ave. The man detained Mr. Roth until police arrived. When Hoth was searched,  they had found both a crack pipe and crack cocaine.

Mr. Hoth was charged with one count of robbery, one count of armed robbery, battery and drug possession. He is currently being held on a $300,000 cash bond.
