New Edgeworx Co-Working Space Opening On Broadway.

edgeworx2Coffee shops hold great appeal for the work-from-anywhere set in Edgewater. But starting Aug. 1, these types of small business owners and employees will have another option from which to complete projects, email contacts and generate new customers.

“Edgewater and the North Side are an incredibly diverse neighborhood and area,” said Mike Bartelt, the owner of Edgeworx, 5505 N. Broadway Ave. “It is also home for me. With the assistance of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, we learned that Edgewater is home for many home-based entrepreneurs of all ages, backgrounds and disciplines. We hope to serve a number of those looking for a professional space to work from outside of their home and to be able to meet, collaborate and network with others.”

Edgeworx will be located in the same space as Superior Spaces, a turnkey office solutions provider, which Bartelt also owns. He said Edgeworx seemed like a logical way to expand Superior Spaces and fulfill the need of a co-working space as well.

The co-working space will have 14-15 work areas available for rent as well as free WiFi. The ergonomic workspaces are designed to fit various needs, including:

  • Individual, dimmable lighting for personal preference
  • Personal work station electrical outlets to plug in computers while in use
  • Personal work station USB charging ports
  • Copy service
  • Meetings and professional training space available for up to 20 people
  • Flexible hours with online reservation
  • Refrigerator, microwave and coffee

Additionally, Edgeworx will soon have keyless entry to allow unrestricted access during business hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. It will also have a phone booth for call privacy, a conference room for up to six people, and a collaborative soft seating area.

Clients will be able to pre-reserve space online in 2-hour, 4-hour or 8-hour blocks of time, as well as reserve meeting space. A typical 2-hour reservation will be $10, 4 hours will be $17 and 8 hours will be $32. Once the conference room is completed, it will be available for reservation for $25 per hour. Bartelt said he also hopes local entrepreneurs wanting to conduct training seminars and events will take advantage of the space, which contains enough seating and space for up to 20 people. An appropriate fee will be worked out for these events as well, he added.

Plans to open Edgeworx have been in place for about seven to eight months. The 1,400-square-foot space had been empty for some time, but the owner of the unit had renovated the interior into a “raw shell” that made it easier to transform the space into what Bartelt was looking for. Combining two business models into one space will help Edgeworx remain an affordable place for entrepreneurs to work, collaborate and meet in a professional, fun environment, he added.

“We are really excited about opening Edgeworx and look forward to making this a community place where people want to come and work, collaborate with other entrepreneurs and be part of the Edgewater co-working community,” Bartelt said. “We are committed to flexibility to ensure we provide the experience our clients want and need, and we look forward to growing along with them to make Edgeworx an integral part of the community and neighborhood.”

Katrina Balog, executive director of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, said Bartelt is responding to a market need.

“Mike’s background in office furniture uniquely positioned him to open a co-working space with contemporary, ergonomically designed individual work stations,” she said. “We look forward to supporting him as he grows Edgeworx in Edgewater.”
