Edgewater Event Will Shred Your Important Papers With Food Or Cash Donation to Care For Real

What started out as a private event for a local business’ clients four years ago, has grown into an organized donation drive that is open to the public.

The A.C.T. Group, Ltd.; an accounting, consulting and training company located in Edgewater, will hold an annual event that will shred all your important papers with a cash or food donation to Care For Real. All your paper materials will be collected and securely disposed of on site Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in front of A.C.T.’s office at 6228 N. Broadway.

There is no limit to how much you bring, they only ask that you give a donation that is appropriate to the amount to be shredded. Only paper goods will be accepted and Staples and paper clips can be left on the documents. If you bring in food items, they ask they be non-perishable and before expiration date.

“We started this event 4 years ago as a perk to our clients,” said Cheryl Simon, Office Manager for The A.C.T. Group.  “As we got into the planning, we decided we would like to expand the scope and involve the community.  And as people responded positively, we thought this would be a great opportunity to raise money and food to benefit Care for Real.”

Last year, the event collected $1290 in cash and 600 pounds of food for Care For Real, an area non-profit located at 5339 N. Sheridan. Care For Real works with the Edgewater community by providing free services to those in need including on-site food distribution five times a week, deliveries to the homebound, a clothing closet, a pet pantry, case-management, counseling/referral services and an Employment Resource Center to help their clients self stabilize and get back on their feet.

“We chose Care for Real because they are truly local and directly help the Edgewater Community,” Simon added.  “We are so happy to contribute to their cause each year. The generosity of our clients and community has been inspirational…each year the event has grown as have the contributions.”
