New Edgewater Bakery Slated To Open In December With Help From Indiegogo Campaign

edge-of-sweetnessThe process of opening their new bakery has been an a huge learning experience for Kate Merrill and Paige Tyler, Chefs and Co-Owners of Edge of Sweetness Bakery located at 6034 N. Broadway in Edgewater.

The duo are not only new friends, they are new business partners. The anticipated December opening of their new bakery is in the final phase of gutting out the old True Nature Foods space.

After already investing $200,000 into the project, they are in need of $30,000 to purchase and install the final two elements to bring their business dream a reality: a stack convection oven and a walk-in cooler/freezer. Good news, they are already one-third of the way to their goal.

According to the Indigogo site, the duo said, “We met last year while building our individual bakery brands at a local shared kitchen. We instantly connected – sharing a passion for quality homemade baked goods and a dream to own a neighborhood bakery.  It didn’t take long for us to merge our existing bakery brands, and Edge of Sweetness was born!”

The new bakery not only will be a community-based hangout where people can nosh on fresh baked goodies and sip on a hot cup of coffee, but will also be a place where other chefs who are starting or building their own culinary businesses can cook. The final space will be 3,200 sq ft, large enough to allow for events, parties, and cooking classes. A large outdoor patio will be introduced for the summer months.

According to the campaign website, those who help the business reach their final goal will be rewarded with valuable and exciting perks including bakery and coffee packages and experiential cooking classes.

Merrill and Tyler added, “We have personally invested over $200,000 towards building permits, architectural plans, construction costs and the purchase of bakery equipment. We need your help in getting across the finish line and getting our doors open – not only for ourselves but for the super supportive Edgewater community and the shared kitchen clients that share our space.”
