New Clothing And Lifestyle Store Ups Bryn Mawr’s Retail Game

Co-Founders Sneed and Ferguson

A new brick and mortar retail studio has opened up at 1055 W Bryn Mawr Ave. and offers merchandise that fuses art, design, and fashion. It is a welcomed addition to many residents who want to see more retail artisans along the street.

SOUNDOFF design began in 2016 with what the creators like to call a cross-generational lifestyle brand that embodies and celebrates contemporary expression. Founded by Daryl Sneed, Drew Ferguson and Bret Grafton the company developed a brand geared towards people of all ages and create limited-run releases that mix casual, street-style with authentic voice.

“We focused on looking at icons and iconography associated with people who really targeted the idea of authentic expression,” said Sneed. “It is a way of pulling together these ideas and people through street-style gear such as shirts, sweatshirts, thermals, original art posters and other types of products.”

Initially built as an online-based venture, they began to expand into a small co-op space that Sneed used for his women’s clothing line Ricorso. With the intention of becoming a customer-based studio as well, the SOUNDOFF brand quickly developed and they began to grow.

When the new space next door to the co-op became available, it was an opportunity for the SOUNDOFF trio to offer a place where their clients could see the merchandise and try it on. So they took it over earlier this year and started to frame it as a true in-studio store.

“Edgewater is such a true Chicago ‘neighborhood’.” Sneed said in a release. “In general, people already like the quality and style of our products, but like supporting what we do even more when they learn we are local to the area.  This makes the launch of our SOUNDOFF retail space particularly exciting to us as it provides us the opportunity to more completely express our brand and directly interact with our customers, whom we previously could only engage indirectly via our website and periodically via pop-ups and events.”

The store is open on Saturday-Sunday to start from 12:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. as well as by appointment.  They will also be doing some special events at the store as the Holidays get closer.
