Man Mugged At Gunpoint On Balmoral In Andersonville

gun-1Around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, a man was mugged on the 1400 block of W. Balmoral. The man was walking home from a party at Jerry’s sandwiches, 5409 N. Clark.

According to Chicago police, the attacker got out of a car and punched the man knocking him to the ground. He then put a gun to his cheek and demanded money. When they discovered the victim had no cash, the attackers fled the scene.

The victim, 40-year-old Trey Elder, walked away without any serious injuries. He talked with DNAinfo about the crime saying, “It sucks that it happened, but it could’ve been way worse. They could’ve shot me. I could be in the hospital and need reconstructive surgery on my face. In that situation I came out pretty lucky, they didn’t get anything. I’m just like sore… and mad.”

Ok folks…it’s the big city.. don’t be walking around alone..after 12a…drunkish…..it’s that simple..

    • P

Umm…no. There is nothing particularly sketchy about that part of Bryn Mawr, day or night. The article never said he was drunk in any capacity. These overwrought “beware late night in the big city” narratives implicitly blame victims for walking home in a generally safe neighborhood.

This is a troubling and unfortunate incident. There is no evidence (at least in this article) that this man was audaciously ignoring obvious precautions.

      Of course. Blame the victim.

Did he get the make of the car??

    • BuzzModerator

Those details were not released by the police.

Was he coming home from work or a party?

“The man was walking home from a party”

      • Jill Wester

I saw that. I’m asking if that’s correct as I believe he works there.

        • BuzzModerator

H Jill. Both the police report and DNA article did not say specifically that he was an employee of Jerry’s.

            Ok

I do work for the company, and it was our the night of our staff holiday party. I live close by and have made that walk many times before without incident. TE

Jerry’s closes at 10 or 11. How was he walking home from a party there at 3am?
