Hoping to capitalize on Mexican food fare in Andersonville, the owners of Lady Gregory’s have been causing a stir in the neighborhood with their new concept Octavio Cantina and Kitchen at 5308 N. Clark.

They have been gutting the space for some time and are paying attention to every detail. Taking over both the old Acre and Bar Ombra spaces, the restaurant will have a large floor plan with an open kitchen. A 12-foot by 30-foot skylight will dominate a tin ceiling that is currently being restored. Area artists Chris Silva and Cecilio Garcia who are well-known for their vibrant, colorful and sometimes whimsical work are said to be contributing to the project.

According to a Chicago Eater article, Octavio has hired Executive Chef Daniel Muño who has been perfecting his talent at Barrio in River North. The food is being orchestrated by Tobie Nidetz and Dudley Nieto and is claiming to be a modern take to Mexican food from different regions of the country.

And what is Mexican food without a good cocktail? The updated bar will have a sophisticated approach to drinks and will be overseen by Matt Frederick who is well known for his work at Maplewood Brewery in Logan Square. The full service bar will have margaritas by the glass or pitcher among other unique drinks.

Co-owner Martin Cournane told The Eater, “We wanted to create a menu that keeps the neighborhood and families in mind while also having some intricate dishes for the foodies as well.”

That position may be a smart move as the neighborhood moves on from the high-profile trouble Cantina 1910 ran into before they closed within a year of opening. Octavio Cantina and Kitchen is hoping to open their doors in mid-March.
