Community Alert Issued After Attempted Child Kidnapping/Luring In Andersonville

A community alert was issued yesterday evening from the 20th District Police after what they say was a attempted kidnapping and child luring.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at approximately 8 a.m. a man driving a dark blue colored, 4 door vehicle (possibly a Toyota Corolla) approached a 13-year-old boy who was walking along the 5100 block of N. Clark. The man pulled along side the child and told him to get into the vehicle. The boy ran back to his house ‘in fear’ and called his parents.

The suspect is described as a white male, small, thin build, short straight grey colored hair, clean shaven face and wearing black sunglasses.

According to Alderman Patrick O’Connor, police will be stepping up patrols in the area. It is advised that parents talk with their children about if they are ever in this situation. Police recommend residents to:

• Be aware of this situation and alert your neighbors.

• Call 911 to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity in your neighborhood.

• Do not walk alone. Identify safe havens along your route between destination and home, such as businesses or trusted neighbors.

• Always be aware of your surroundings

If you have any additional information about this case, please contact Area North Detectives at (312) 747-8380.
