Edgewater Businesses Put On Alert After String Of Burglaries

A recent string of burglaries affecting businesses along Broadway in both Edgewater and Lakeview caused the Chicago Police Department to issue a warning to neighborhood shops.

The alert went out last week and details three incidents that all happened on the same day. According to police, the suspect illegally entered the businesses on Feb. 9 by prying open the back doors. He then stole cash from two of the businesses registers and took the entire register at a third.

The incidents occurred at the following locations:

  • On the 5800 block of N. Broadway around 8:20 a.m.
  • On the 3100 block of N Broadway between 8:59 a.m. and 9:19 a.m.
  • On the 5500 block of N Broadway between 10:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.

Police describe the male suspect as in his 50s, 5-foot-10, between 160-170 pounds and was wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.
