Family Of Injured Edgewater Crossing Guard Sues Lyft

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Janet Gould, an 80-year old crossing guard who was struck by a car last week in Edgewater.

Gould, who has been crossing children for 34 years now, was hit by a 29-year-old Lyft Driver at 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 as he was making a left turn onto Clark St. from Bryn Mawr Ave. Law firm Corboy & Demetrio have filed the negligence lawsuit naming Lyft and Lyft driver Mohammadsalim Vhora as defendants.

“Only an utterly distracted driver would miss a school crossing guard, wearing a reflective vest, holding a big red stop sign, standing in the middle of a marked crosswalk at the end of a school day,” said firm partner Francis Patrick Murphy. “This tragedy is incomprehensible.”

Gould was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition after the incident. She is currently recovering after coming out of a coma and injuries including head trauma, fractured ribs and a broken bone in her neck.
