Holiday Craft Fair To Take Over Broadway Armory This Saturday

remix-1Over the summer you may have seen the food trucks at the Edgewater Beach Apartments every Friday. At the weekly event, put on by the Edgewater Development Corporation (EDC), they surveyed many of the attendees.

“We talked to hundreds of people to ask them what they might like to see on Bryn Mawr,” said Jennifer Borchardt, Interim Executive Director of the Edgewater Development Corporation. From this outreach they found an overwhelming number of people would like to see more retail on the Bryn Mawr strip. So EDC worked to develop a pop-up shop located in what has been a vacant store front at 1056 W. Bryn Mawr.

The pop-up is run by volunteers including Jennifer herself and features 53 artists from the Edgewater and surrounding communities. It is open on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m and Saturday-Sunday (except December 10) from noon to 6 p.m. through the end of the year.

In addition, the 53 pop-up shop artists and a number of others will come together to participate in Holiday Remix 2016, a craft fair which will be held at the Broadway Armory this coming Saturday. This is the second year for the Remix event.

Borchardt says that both the pop-up shop and last year’s Holiday Remix have been well received by the community. People have found them great places to look for Holiday gifts. Borchardt hopes that both the artists and the community will come together to keep the pop-up going at the Bryn Mawr location.

Remix 2016 will take place on Saturday, December 10 from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and 80 artists will display their wares. For more information go to Remixchicago.com.

In addition to being a source for locally produced items, the event will also be an opportunity to donate to Care for Real with gifts for their annual toy drive.
