The most ambitious public works project that Edgewater has ever seen moves forward with heavy construction that is impacting the neighborhood.  Along with weekend station closures for at least the next five weeks, the CTA has also announced corresponding street and alley closures as well as parking restrictions.

The street affected is Ardmore Ave. between Broadway and Winthrop. It will continue to be closed on weekends through March to both vehicle and bicycle traffic. The sidewalk on the north side of Ardmore however will remain open.

The CTA added that the alley east of 5817-5853 Broadway will be local traffic only to access parking lots via Ardmore. Parking lanes on the east side of Broadway between Ardmore and Bryn Mawr will be closed during the weekends and parking lanes on the north and south sides of Ardmore between Broadway and Winthrop will remain closed during weekdays for the duration of the work.

They warned residents about significant noise in the neighborhood from There will be noise while work is being performed from the use of pneumatic tools, generators, rail equipment, heavy machinery, maintenance equipment, and flagging horns. The work will be continuous around the clock through March each weekend starting Fridays at 9 a.m. to Mondays at 3 p.m.

According to the CTA the work being done currently is for duct bank installation. A large crane has also been in use on Ardmore to lift heavy equipment on and off the tracks.
