An Edgewater man was arrested after police identified him as the thief stealing bikes from a Sheridan Rd. high-rise complex. Things got worse when officers found multiple bikes and parts in the suspect’s possession.
The 25-year-old man, Sean Ahern, was on police radar after he was seen in surveillance footage stealing bikes from a high-rise complex on the 5800 block of N. Sheridan on two different occasions (November 7 and December 14). Ahern is accused of breaking into the building’s 12th floor bike room and leaving with a bike both times.
According to CWBChicago (who first broke the story), Ahern was arrested at his home on the 6000 block of N. Paulina and taken into custody after Area North detectives and 20th District police recognized him as the man in the video. During the arrest, police uncovered 13 bikes and a slew of parts in what appears to be a garage.
Ahern is being held by police in lieu of $10,000 bail. At this time, he is charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of criminal damage to property.
