8 Block Clubs, 200 Households Come Together For Edgewater’s Epic Garage Sale

Looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday morning and afternoon? Try the Edgewater Neighborhood Garage Sale on June 4.

The 22nd annual event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the following area: Foster to Devon on the south and north, and Clark and Sheridan on the west and east.

The yard sale is sponsored by eight block clubs, and more than 200 households are expected to participate in the community wide undertaking that has evolved into an Edgewater tradition, according to Marilyn “Lynn” Pierce, an organizer of the event. There will be no rain date.

The yard sales will take place in garages as well as front, side and rear yards. Maps of all locations will be distributed at participating households on the day of the sale. They will also be posted online.

For the second year, Special Services Area (SSA) No. 26, which is managed by the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, will organize sidewalk sales on the Broadway corridor and for the intersecting business districts of Devon, Granville, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr and Berwyn.

Theater companies, antique stores, health and wellness businesses and additional retailers will also offer yard sales. Visitors to the garage sale will receive a list of participants.

For participants who are unable to sell at their own residences, four group sites are available. They are the Barr Funeral Home parking lot, 1228 W. Granville; the parking lot at 6044 N. Winthrop; the Church of Atonement, 5749 N. Kenmore; and the Swift School, 5900 N. Winthrop.

The eight sponsoring block clubs are BARGE Neighbors Community Organization, Edgewater Beach Neighbors Association (EBNA), Edgewater Glen Association (EGA), Edgewater North Neighbors (ENN), EPIC Block Club, North Edgewater Beach Association (NEBA), Northeast Organization of Neighbors (NEON) and TAHBS Citizens Council. Edgewater Beach Apartments, the co-op at 5555 N. Sheridan Road, also will participate for the fourth time.

Nine non-profit organizations will participate in the sale this year. They include: Berger Park Advisory Council, 6205 N. Sheridan; Care for Real, 1254 W. Elmdale; Chicago Friends School, 5944 N. Magnolia; Chicago Police Department 24th District CAPS program, 1242 W. Elmdale; Families Together Cooperatives Nursery School and Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Elmdale; Pivot Arts and Rivendell Theatre, 5900 N. Winthrop; and St. Gertrude’s Ministry Center, 6214 N. Glenwood.
