Edgewater Man Who Approached Children At Local Playgrounds Charged By Police

arrest-1An Edgewater man who approached children at least two area playgrounds in April and May was arrested and charged by Chicago Police for trespassing. The man was identified as the “suspicious person” wanted after a community alert was issued last Tuesday.

According to ABC7, Piermario Molinelli, 24, of the 5300 block of N. Glenwood Ave., was charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing to state land. Police said Molinelli ignored gates, fences and signs when he entered the playgrounds.

On April 19 around 1 p.m. at Ravenswood Elementary, 4332 N. Paulina, Molinelli walked up to children and a parent claiming he was a movie star. A parent eventually walked him off the playground.

On May 5, around 5 p.m, Molinelli also approached children at James B. McPherson Elementary, 4728 N. Wolcott. He began saying “hi” to the children. When a parent confronted him, Molinelli said he was inspecting the playground equipment.

Molinelli is due back in court on June 30.
