The Democratic primary race between incumbent Kelly Cassidy and challenger Paula Basta for the 14th District Representitive seat is heating up, in more ways than one.

The Basta camp has accused the Cassidy campaign of spreading some misleading information.  According to Basta’s campaign manager, Marty Rogo, the Cassidy campaign is using a telephone survey across the district that is implying to voters that Basta is under federal investigation for conducting political work while on the job.  No such investigation is taking place and Rogo is calling for the survey to be pulled.  “Kelly Cassidy needs to stop implying improprieties and renounce these tactics.  The people of Andersonville, Edgewater and Rogers Park expect more of their candidates, “ said Marty Rogo.  “Paula Basta has an impeccable record of service to senior citizens and there is not a shred of truth to this implied accusation.”  When asked about the allegations, Cassidy’s campaign manager Lauren Peters stated that they didn’t know what they were about, that “Kelly has been focused on serving the 14th district.”

On the fundraising front Paula Basta out-raised Kelly Cassidy, $32,255 to $21,985 according to the most recent D-2 Quarterly campaign disclosure reports.  Overall, the Basta campaign has $63,697 cash on hand to spend before the March primary, about $23,000 more than Cassidy’s $40,467 in the campaign coffers.
