Broadway Coffee Shop Closes After Five Months In Business

The coffee and cafe business seems to be getting harder after so many options have opened recently in the Edgewater and Andersonville neighborhoods. Unfortunately, a small independent cafe which opened at the beginning of March has already closed its doors.

The European-style coffee cafe Velox Coffee at 6206 N. Broadway (just North of Granville) opened its doors on March 5 of this year. Owner and area resident Charlie Didrickson took over the 1000 sq. ft. space and offered  the usual cafe fare including bagels, doughnuts and pastries. According to them, their focus though was on their own brand of locally-roasted coffee, an espresso menu, and all the favorite cafe staples including cappuccinos, americanos, lattes and more.

In a Facebook post however, Didrickson said that the shop has officially closed after just five months in business. He thanks their customers and “everyone who believed in us.” He did mention that if anyone in the industry needed cafe equipment to email him at If you are in the industry and looking for cafe equipment shoot me an email charlied63@gmail.com.

There was no reason given as to why they had to shutter so quickly.
