Unleash Your Inner Viking This Weekend In Andersonville

The Andersonville strip is gearing up for the first ever Viking Challenge and Craft Beer Crawl which will highlight some of the area’s local bars and restaurants.

According to Laura Austin, who is the Community and Events Manager for the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, the idea for the Andersonville Viking Challenge & Craft Beer Crawl was borne out of the desire to do something more for St. Morten’s Goose Day which is the traditional Swedish Holiday where geese are prepared for slaughter and consumption. Participating businesses will be playing up the viking theme and those attending are encouraged to do the same as viking hats will be made available to them.

We wanted to highlight our amazing bars and taverns which get left out of most of our annual crawls like Wine Walk and Taste of Andersonville and we wanted to do something fun in the neighborhood,” said Austin. “With the continued popularity of Game of Thrones, who wouldn’t want to come out dressed as a Viking and walk the District in medieval style.”

With craft beer being a highlight, bars will also feature special craft cocktails as well. Simon’s Tavern will be offering traditional Swedish goose blood and Aquavit cocktails, the Call Bar will have Apple Cider Cinnamon Vodka cocktails, autumn apple mojito’s at Sofo Bar & Tap and raspberry Bacardi sours at Atmosphere.

The Andersonville Viking Challenge and Craft Beer Crawl will be held tomorrow Saturday, November 18 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include admission, a custom Andersonville tasting glass, $3 drink specials at eight locations, a bite at Jerry’s before the event, a souvenir badge & lanyard and an opportunity to enter to win tickets to the 2018 Andersonville Wine Walk. Check-in for the Viking Challenge will begin at 2 p.m. the day of the event at Jerry’s, 5211 N. Clark (remember your photo ID).

There will also be a Viking Challenge after party and pig roast at Pork Shoppe, 5721 N. Clark from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. after the crawl. Tickets for the pig roast are $20 per person.  Also, Alleycat Comics is hosting a game night that night featuring Raiders of the North Sea and The Game of Thrones board games.

Proceeds from the event will support the ongoing programming of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce. For more info on the event, Click here.
