Autopsy Reveals That Edgewater Man Found Dead In His Refrigerator Was Strangled

The lifeless body of a man was discovered last Thursday stuffed in his Edgewater Beach high rise apartment refrigerator. It has since been learned that the cause of death was strangulation.

On July 9, Police were called to the Hollywood Towers Condominiums (5701 N Sheridan) by someone from the building’s condo association for a well-being check on 58-year-old Marcus Merge. After entering his fifth floor residence around 10:45 a.m., they found the victim wrapped in a bed sheet and shoved into the refrigerator. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Chicago police said that there were signs of trauma on Merge’s body. There were also other unofficial reports of possible bite wounds on the victim. After an autopsy over the weekend, it was learned that the cause of death was strangulation.

Authorities have openedĀ  a homicide investigation into Merge’s death.

Anyone with information on the case can call Area Three detectives who are conducting the investigation.
