Two Robberies In Edgewater Area Over Weekend, One Leads To Shootout

Two robberies over the weekend occurred in the Edgewater area, one of them led to a shootout between the suspect and an off-duty police officer.

The first incident happened on Friday afternoon around 1:20 p.m. at a pharmacy on the 6400 block of N. Clark. The armed suspect approached the store owner and the off-duty officer which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect ran away on foot. No one was hit by the bullets but broken glass and yellow tape littered the corner over the weekend. Area detectives are currently investigating.

The second incident happened just outside the Edgewater boundary on the 6200 block of N. Magnolia at 8 p.m. Sunday evening. Three male attackers approached a man and pushed him against a wall. They rifled through his pockets and fled the scene.

Police are investigating if the incident was carried out by another group of men who robbed a man at gunpoint just a little further north on the 1400 block of W Estes in rogers Park 15 minutes later. Those three suspects were seen in a light-colored sedan.

No one is in custody at this time.
