Suspect Wanted For Shooting Rollerblader In Edgewater Is Captured

A suspect wanted after shooting a man who was rollerblading on N. Glenwood near Thorndale has been arrested by Chicago Police.

According to an email put out by Alderman Harry Osterman’s Office, police had been actively looking for the shooter since the incident occurred on August 16, 2018. The victim, who was rollerblading in Edgewater around 3:40 a.m., was approached by the suspect and ordered to hand over his backpack. He was then shot in the abdomen and the leg and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital.

The 29th district police made a preliminary identification of the suspect who is a known gang member. When the victim was able to have his breathing tube taken out after several days in intensive care, he made a positive identification of the suspect.

Since that time, police started searching for the suspect by making traffic stops and searching known gang hangouts. After canvasing hotels on Lincoln Ave. on September 17, police saw the suspect get out of a stolen vehicle on the 5500 block of N. Lincoln. After the suspect fled the scene, he was found soon after hiding in a bush.

The man has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one felony count of robbery with a firearm. No other information was given by the 48th Ward Office.
