Shots Fired at Thorndale and Broadway

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAShots were fired last night around 10:30pm at the Broadway and Thorndale intersection. There were no injuries or fatalities, but this will mark Edgewater’s second shooting in the last week. Last Wednesday, March 12, a 23 year-old man was shot at 7:40am at the 5800 block of North Kenmore. He was taken to Illinois Masonic where his condition was stabilized.

The local Chicago Police department reported that the shots fired last night hit a few vehicles, but that no one was caught in the crossfire. Those involved were taken in by police and several arrests were made. There have been major efforts to keep the area crime free with police SUV’s that stay posted on Thorndale around the clock. With commuters coming to and from the Thorndale Broadway CTA red line, the block has a steady stream of people walking around at any given hour. The violence is suspected to be gang related.

Police warn everyone should be street smart and stay aware of your surroundings. If you hear shots fired or see something,  call 911 and report anything that could be threatening or dangerous for those in the community.
