New Pop-up Store Selling Unique Vintage Goods Opens In Andersonville

Julia Marchenko and Lora Swanson

A new pop-up store that will sell rare vintage furniture, décor, clothing, and accessories has opened on the Andersonville strip in the old Ann Sather restaurant space at 5207 N. Clark.

The woman behind the concept, Lora Swanson of Swantiques, has been an antiques dealer on the North Shore for 13 year and operated the now shuttered an*tiq and mod*ern on Central Street in Evanston. She was looking for a way to continue her love of sharing exquisite vintage goods in a “brick and mortar” space while cutting down the expenses of having a full-time storefront.

“I love the excitement of an art opening, and wanted to try to recreate that feel with antique and vintage furnishings in a temporary space,” said Swanson. “Since I sell home furnishings, setting up is a lengthy process, so a month-long ‘show’ is perfect. I’ve done these Pop-Ups twice at Chicago and Main in Evanston, and was ready to try a new location.”

She began looking a many vacant retail storefronts that had landlords willing to lease a space for only a couple of months. That is when Swanson found the perfect location at the old Ann Sather Andersonville. The space was big enough to stage her furniture and also had what she considers an interesting layout.

“When searching for a Pop-Up location, I look for a densely populated neighborhood with lots of walking traffic; proximity to public transportation; a high percentage of coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants; and a diverse selection of unique retail,” Swanson added. “Andersonville has all that and so much more!  Character, charm, history, and a welcoming atmosphere. We love being here and hope to add something fun to the mix.”

Along with Swanson’s one-of-a-kind antique, vintage, and mid-century modern furnishings; She has invited online vintage clothing dealer Julia Marchenko of RareJule to join the show. This will be Marchenko’s first in-person vintage clothing sale which will be specifically curated for the Chicago community. Expect to see one-of-a-kind pieces including old Hollywood era lingerie, 1950s beaded cardigans, 1960s psychedelic print dresses, and 1970s boho style coats and jackets.

The Swantiques and RareJule Vintage Pop-Up is open now through November 4, 2018. Hours are Tuesday-Wednesday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m, Thursday-Friday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
