A new restaurant that promises to bring more south of the border flavor to the neighborhood has opened in the old That Little Mexican Cafe space at 1055 W Bryn Mawr.

The new Edgewater Mexican Cafe owner Ruben Knight was the long time bartender of That Little Mexican Cafe. According to general manager Randy Toledano, The previous owners were looking to sell the restaurant to one of their employees. When the right price was offered to Knight, he jumped at the chance.

Though the interiors have been updated a bit, customers will see a bigger change in the menu. Toledano explained that the new cafe has spiced up the offerings with new additions and bolder flavors while also bringing down the price point. Also, the bar will be staying open later – until 1 a.m. (the kitchen will close at around 12:30 a.m.).

“Everything is homemade,” said Toledano. “Even the margarita mix is made in-house with an old recipe belonging to Ruben. The old menu was lacking spice and flavor and was a bit over-priced. The updated recipes have been tweeked adding more flavor and aroma. Plus our pricing is at a much more competitive level.”

The dining room which seats about 160, has been redecorated and the plan is to expand the bar within the next year. A large patio that fits about 15-20 tables will be utilized as well. There is ample parking behind the business and hours are daily 11 a.m. – 1 a.m.

On Sundays they will be offering an all-you-can-eat Mexican brunch from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. for $14.95 per person and there will be a Monday-Friday 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. happy hour special featuring $6 margaritas.
