Andersonville is regularly ranked as one of the top places to live in both the city of Chicago and nationally. Now the neighborhood has another top ranking as it is the home of the top medical cannabis dispensary in Illinois.

According to a recent 2018 Annual report put out by the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH), Dispensary 33 at 5001 N. Clark has the largest number of customers in the state with 1,405 registered medical cannabis patients. The Clinic Mundelein had the second most at 1,373 and EarthMed in Addison with 1,156 in third. Cook County eclipsed all others with a total of 7, 492 patients with DuPage coming second at 1,650 patients.

In early January of 2015, over sixty members of the local WFCW (Winona Foster Carmen Winnemac) block club gave the thumbs up for the dispensary to operate at the location. Managed by The Cannabis Group LLC, Dispensary 33 opened in the Fall later that year. The store sells several strains of the drug as well as high-end pipes.

The IDPH report included that there was 39,808 new registered patients in the program in 2018, up from 21,800 in 2017 and 7,707 in 2016. Females made up 51.5% of the patients and 48.5% males while about 57% of patients were aged 51 and over. By far most patients suffered from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder with sever fibromyalgia, cancer and spinal cord disease following respectively in a long list of medical illnesses.
