Edgewater 5K Expecting Over 800 Participants This Weekend

With over $17,000 donated to public and private schools in the 48th Ward since its start in 2014, the Edgewater 5K Run /1mi Walk returns this weekend hoping to add to the total.

According to a press release put out by the sponsor of the event, the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, they are expecting over 800 participants this year who will either run or walk and help collect much needed funding for local schools. The money comes from attendees’ registration fees and their community sponsors.

The Edgewater 5k Run / 1mi Walk will take place on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m and costs $40/person. The race route begins at Loyola University’s St. Ignatius Community Plaza at N Kenmore and W Sheridan Rd. From the start point, runners head east to N Sheridan Rd. From there, the runners head south in a rare opportunity to run down Sheridan Rd. Runners go east at Ardmore to the northernmost part of the scenic lakefront path, running south past Kathy Osterman Beach. Runners turn around at Balmoral and come back on N Sheridan and finish at the St. Ignatius Plaza.

Children ages 3-5 can also register this year to run in their own event – Edgewater’s Kids’ Race. Parents that want their children (ages 3-5 only) to run in the Kids’ Race must register them separately. The $5 registration includes a t-shirt and ribbon. The kids’ race is approximately 50 meters in length.
