Man Found Hanging From Tree Monday Has Been Identified

Chicago ParkIt was a typical Monday morning and people went about their daily routine along the park on the southwest corner of Lake Shore Drive and Foster Ave. One woman however, became alarmed by an unusual scene in the park’s grassy field.

That woman, 35-year-old Linda Ewen, told the Chicago Tribune she was driving by in a cab and out of the corner of her eye saw a large figure hanging from a tree. After doing a double take, she called 911 to report what she saw.

What Ewen had seen was a tragedy. The person hanging from the tree was dead from an apparent suicide. Police were quick to respond and pronounced the male individual dead at 8 a.m.

Yesterday afternoon, the Cook County medical examiner’s office had officially identified the man as 42-year-old Abdela M. Hagaito, of the 6000 block of N. Kenmore Ave.

Area North detectives are currently conducting a non-criminal death investigation.

It is important to note that if anyone you know is displaying possible suicidal actions, please stay with the person and call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-TALK (8255).
