Loyola Expanding Further in Edgewater
Loyola University has recently acquired buildings within northeastern Edgewater, such as Wright Hall about a year ago and the Lakeside Boarding House a few months ago, in hopes of expanding its lakefront campus and establishing campus like atmosphere in the area. As part of this initiative, major construction will soon begin to renovate some of the recently purchased buildings but also construct four new buildings in alignment with its commitment to sustainable operations and education:
- A “Center for Sustainable Urban Living,” with a beautiful greenhouse
- a small 4 story building, use unknown
- San Francisco Hall, a residence for 400 students
- De Nobili Hall, a residence for 200 students
The greenhouse will be used to house a clean energy lab and teaching labs, Solutions to Environmental Problems (STEP) program and even the production of food that will supply a café in the building. The dorms will be green as well, with San Francisco Hall seeking gold LEED certification featuring green technology.
To kickoff these major renovation and new construction initiatives, Kenmore will be closed for 18 months on the 6300 block.
