Upcoming 2016 Edgewater Art Fair Will Have Something For Everyone

ArtFest-2The neighborhood is gearing up for one of its most lively events that takes place each year. The 2016 Edgewater Arts Festival, which is put on by Edgewater Artists in Motion will take place this month, September 24 & 25, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Granville Ave. from Broadway Ave. to Sheridan Rd.

Last year, the growing event got its largest crowd, estimated at around 7,000 attendees. This year could draw even more. But Valeria Basso of Edgewater Artists in Motion does not want this to discourage people from coming.

Basso said, “It a good-sized fair that attracts many types artists representing various artistic mediums, but at the same time it is small enough to be a fun fest that is easy to navigate. This keeps it a high quality art event with the feel of a neighborhood block party.”

ArtFest-3The fest will attract a little over 100 artists this year who will showcase their paintings, photography, hand-made jewelry, pottery, glass, illustration, mixed media and more. About 40% of those who show at the festival are local residents.

The event also will feature eclectic music. Basso said, “The performance line-up spans different generations, different cultural backgrounds and all types of music. This is not your typical street fest music. There is a little bit for everyone.”

In keeping with Alderman Harry Osterman’s Year of the Youth Program, the Edgewater Arts Festival will also have an expanded children’s section. The kid’s activity corner will include puppet shows, finger painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, mask making workshop sand more for kids aged 1-12.

There will also be a kid’s talent show where elementary school kids get to show off their musical chops in front of a live audience and the popular pet parade.
