Burglars Rob Andersonville Home While Owners Slept Inside

burglary-1Around 11:30 p.m. this past Friday night, an Andersonville home near the intersection of Catalpa and Paulina was burglarized while the owners slept inside. The thieves took wallets, electronics, keys and their convertible which was parked in the garage. The suspects are still at large.

When the home owners (who wish to remain anonymous) woke in the morning, they were startled to find a pair of steak knives from their kitchen butcher block on the first step of the staircase. Soon after,  they discovered the missing items and stolen car.

According to the owners, the burglars entered through a back side gate, removed a window screen and entered through the only unlatched window. The house alarm was on, but was in ‘home mode’ and did not detect the windows or motion.

The burglars picked through the first floor and basement. They also took a computer in a second floor bedroom, just feet away from where the owners were sleeping. As they thieves left, they carefully closed the window, put back the screen and even closed the garage door after stealing the car.

“This has certainly rattled us and our neighbors.  We have lived in this house/block for ten years and nothing has happened here,” said one of the owners. “We have seen the positive change in the neighborhood through the years. But recently, you seem to be hearing more about crimes like this, and it is very unsettling.”

After the burglars left in the stolen car, they proceeded to use the victim’s credit cards at businesses including a drive-through restaurant. Police are hoping video surveillance will lead them to the suspects.
